Back Talk
2000
Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany
(commissioned by the DAAD)

Stuffed macaw with interactive speaking device mounted on aluminium perch
36 x 17 x 10 inches

A stuffed macaw is animated with an interactive speaking device that generates a movable lower bill. It records sound bites and repeats them twice in a slightly distorted parrot-like manner (see Ornithology 2000, video). Back Talk is a portable interactive sound unit, which can be placed in various sites and social situations.

At the Kunstmuseum Bonn, Back Talk was suspended from the ceiling in the center of the central circular staircase of the building. Every museum visitor passed it on their way to the various exhibition spaces.
